I have recently started teaching online lessons using Zoom.  You will use the same Zoom invitation and password each week.  I will send this information to you when we set up our lesson schedule.

Here are some guidelines for setting up your computer for an optimum lesson experience:

1. A laptop computer works well.  You may also use a tablet or smartphone. Set your device on it's side (landscape)

2. I would like to see a side profile of the student as well as as much of the piano keys as possible

3. The Internet connection works best if all other devices are not using the internet at the same time.

4. If your internet is slow, you may find connecting directly to the modem with an ethernet cable will help.  These are fairly inexpensive.

5.  Please make sure the "Original Sound"  is turned on the computer.  You will see how to do this below.

Enabling Original Sound on a Computer

  1. Make sure you have downloaded the Zoom App to your computer.
  2. Open Zoom app
  3. Click on “Settings” (the gear box in the upper right corner)
  4. Select “Audio”
  5. Turn off “Automatically Adjust Microphone Volume” and then select a level that is ¾ to the full volume.
  6. Click on “Advanced”
  7. Click on “Show in meeting option to enable original sound” from the microphone.
  8. When you join the meeting, on the upper left corner of your screen, you will see the ability to turn on and off the original sound.  Please make sure that it is turned on.  (on my computer when the button is blue, it is turned on)

Enabling Original Sound on a Tablet or Smart Phone

  1. Open the Zoom app.
  2. Click on the “settings” at the bottom.
